A couple of Easters ago my sister and her husband were visiting along with my son's in-laws parents.
We had decided beforehand to have a picnic in Michael's orchard of homemade pizza and salads.
We had a test ‘fire-up' of their old bread oven and all was well.
The day before the picnic we struggled to take tables and chairs to the top of the orchard.
The tomato sauce was made; the dough ingredients ready to be made the following morning,
and the Mozzarella and basil at the ready.
The day of the picnic arrived with rain! Undeterred we carried on. The bread oven was lit and
tables and chairs pushed into the tiny space inside the building.
An area for food preparation cleared, and we squeezed in, in rows.
Michael had made in an impromptu bread paddle and the first pizza was rolled out,
topped and pushed into the oven. 7 pairs of eyes tried to watch the process
but in less than a minute it was ready!
We couldn't believe how quickly it had cooked. Then pizza followed pizza until the dough was finished.
Real fast food and delicious We had a lot of fun despite the rain.
What the French would have thought I don't know, but it appears they have a joke about
Brits renovating old properties.
‘How many Brits can you get in a bread oven?'
This is a top joke apparently. The answer in our case was 7 and 1 child!
